Let's do this Socratically. If we had kicked off downfield normally (from the 20 yard line), where do you think KY would have fielded it? Hint: a kick from the 35 typically goes to between the goal line and the back line. Compare the likelihood of a long return (say to the 50) of a kick fielded by the best returner on their team at the 15 to the likelihood of a long return of a squib kick by a player other than a return specialist. Which is likelier to prevent KY from getting into field goal position in the last 40 seconds?
