quote:If they win the World Series, I guess you can say they "won" the trade. Since that was primarily why they did the trade. However, it would be a bit too early to say the Rays lost the trade. Myers was the rookie of the year last year and isn't a free agent until after the 2019 season. Odorizzi pitched well in stretches this year and also doesnt hit free agency until 2019. Patrick Leonard hit well in A+ this year and he's only 21. Montgomery has been a little disappointing, but he's still only 24.
We all remember the trade and many ripped the Royals, they gave up the #1 prospect in baseball, Ordonzzi who was rated highly, and Mike Montgomery who was a highly rated pitcher, for Shields and Davis. Now it is still early in the young players and Myers showed a ton of potential last year as injuries wrecked this year, but is it fair to say the Royals won the trade?
quote:Probably not. Myers (w/o injuries) and odorizzi would've contributed, but wade Davis has been insane.
Shields and Davis were both backbones for this club as Shields was their ace and Davis a strong reliable member of the bullpen, would the Royals be here had they kept the young players?
