Definitely do it. I'm every fortunate to live in Germany right now and we travel everywhere.

Wish I were in this position right now.

Traveled to Europe twice for six weeks total over the last 2 years, would love to spend significant time there....obvious wannabe German is obvious...

To the OP, can't help with the kid tips but do what you can to get to Interlaken and travel south to Mürren/Lauterbrunnen...Berner Oberland is a pretty special place
