I paid $3400 a few years ago for that same unit but I had previously replaced a leaking evaporator coil so that was just for the outside compressor, no duct work. Work done by Breaux's Heating and Air in Baton Rouge.

No..No you did not.
That system has a 10 year warranty on all parts, so you either did not have a 16 seer American Standard system or you paid for replacement equipment that should have been free.
