This is the true answer.
UFC has 300 guys on the roster, but they can't keep high level guys healthy and with all the cards they're putting out they can't stack cards with really elite fights. Even with guys fighting 4 and 5 times a year the formula right now is lots of smaller weight class fights and stretching the ranked guys fights throughout the year.
There's not been much to hype and not much controversy or friction to sell and I've never been more interested in the sport for some reason.
I think we're also seeing more skilled fighters rather than brawlers. Nate Diaz was 100% on point about the reebok deal and having all the fighters look similar. It removes personality from the sport and personality is one of the few things a fighter can leverage into better sponsors and more $. UFC isn't going to pay the fighters enough to compensate for their losses of income.

They're planning on running 45 cards next year.

I'm hearing lots of fighters are having issues with sponsors and getting paid so I'm holding my judgement on the Reebok deal
2015 should be a major turnaround.. the first three cards of next year barring injuries will do about two million plus buys total, plus it looks like they are doing 3 stadium shows and Brock and possibly GSP are returning..
