Actually, at fast food, it's payment that slows thing down - I don't mind talking to a (competent) person to make sure the order is input correctly - I might not be an expert at a particularly brand, but the person at the register should be. I think a payment fob you can swipe (like fastpay at gas pumps) would be the most efficient improvement there.

Ditto for casual dining restaurants - I guess I don't eat out enough, but Chili's is now using a "pay at the table" system that is the bee's knees - as soon as I'm ready, I just swipe, set the gratuity and boom - done. Takes seconds. All casual dining should go to this model - immediately.
