Comes to mind for what? Are you implying that the Viet Minh used a "human wave" technique against the French at Dien Bien Phu?

Because that's not what happened. The French chose to defend a valley, not the high ground around it. The VM moved (at great effort) artillery up into the mountains and reduced the garrison by traditional, tried and true siege techniques.

Now, the Minh launched the occasional large infantry assault ("Beatrice" comes to mind) - but their massive losses were as much a result of French airpower and artillery superiority as they were direct infantry assault.

Nothing like what the Chinese did in Korea - sending thousands of men with hundreds of rifles into an assault...
