Sad but very true. This is a very succinct summary of the difference between now and 20 years ago.
Tailgating is now "the event that you have to be there" for for many people. And back then, only a couple games a year were on TV....if you wanted to see the game you had to be there. Now, with every game on TV, being there in person isn't as much of a "mystique" thing as it used to be. Sign of the times.
I agree with everything the OP had to say....but I expect none of it to be heeded. It is a shame that our student section averaged about 8500 actual bodies in attendance per game last year in a section that seats 14,700.
