Just checked and yes his number 8 is retired. Very good player on very has Saints teams. Very good player who brought prominence to Ole Miss. His sons have definitely given tenure to his name and place in football. I will say no success for his sons and would be doing Saints color work his entire life. If you can't get to the kids the dad is the next best thing. I think he tarnished his reputation when he got involved with where he wanted Eli to play. Again the Payton shadow smoothed that over. Anyone else and football purists would still talk about it. Still find it hard to believe he is on the selection committee. And he's hates LSU! No doubt.
