We see a lot of drownings out here due to the number of swimming pools. So sad really. Shocking how many people with pools that have children don't have a lock/fence around the pool.
Another thing....anytime you hear about a near drowning on the news with a child...know it's NOT a good thing. Most near drownings that come into the hospital...no good. The kids end up with severe brain damage and have lasting effects from it. There are places here(like nursing homes for children) where many of the children there are basically vegetables because of drownings, abuse, etc.
Toddlers are drawn to pools. The reflections off the water look sparkly to them. It just looks very inviting to them, so naturally they want to explore it. Parents need to think of a pool as a wild lion in their backyard and protect their child from it.
We recently had a toddler die at our hospital from a near drowning. Parents had left the child in the care of the older sibling(who was only 11). Think of the poor sibling now, they will forever be scarred by this. Parents should not have given such a responsibility to a child.

A girl in Bernice was fricked up and her 3 year old went outside and climbed in the above ground pool and almost died. The bf found her and pulled her out. Then she died of cancer
