Asking for GIF editing advice

I have done graphic designing for some time but have never experimented with Gifs. I would like to start editing Gifs in the style of say LSUFreek, but my google searches never seem to yield tutorials on editing Gifs in that style. So I would greatly appreciate any advice or points in the right direction to get started. For instance, what is the best means to obtain the video clips you want to use and how to package it all together once you are done. TIA
