Gentlemen and Ladies of the OT,

Like many of you, I despise Wal Mart. Not for political or anti-corporate reasons, I just hate going. The people suck, its always crowded, it takes an hour to get in and get out, the child is screaming for a toy, etc.

I like buying meat at a real butcher and buy produce at the farmers market already. But those items like sauces, mixes, spices, paper products, household goods, personal care - they are just so much cheaper at Wal Mart than the grocery store.

It was discussed on here last week the benefits of Amazon Pantry. I was talking to my wife and she said that we needed several items that fit into the Amazon Pantry mold. I like to research things, so I had her build a "Pantry Box" of things that we needed - 22 items, nothing special, things that most households with a 5 year old running around buy monthly.

I had nothing better to do this afternoon while the girls slept than to actually go to Wal Mart and compare prices.

Here are the results.

Wal-Mart $78.92 + 7% tax = $84.45
Amazon Pantry $79.50 + $5.99 shipping = $85.49

Out of 22 items, 2 were cheaper at Wal Mart (32 oz.brown sugar and kiddie vitamins), 4 were cheaper on Amazon (toothpaste, mouthwash, toliet paper and paper towels) and the other 16 were exactly the same or within two cents.

So, for $1.04, I can avoid crowds, redneck trash, screaming kids and wasting an hour or more of my day. I'm sold. Hope this helps someone that was considering it.

walmart ships free anything over 45 dollars which is something to keep in mind also

this also applies to large items like the 50 lb bag of dog food I buy almost every month

that will fill up your pantry box in a hurry
