Wow. Memories are short here.

When Obama started his first term, he tried to. That' was a major campaign theme for him, but the GOP did everything they could to shut him down. Their stated goal was to ensure Obama was a 1 term president. Their only play was to be intransegent. Remember health care? And how Obamacare is modeled on Romney care? And how it was an idea from The Heritage Foundation? Republicans to this day are screaming bloody murder over it.

It's certainly not 1 side's fault, but to suggest that Obama came into office determined NOT to work with the other side is ridiculous.

Absolutely correct. This is the reason why the GOP hasn't been able to come up with a legitimate alternative to the ACA. The ACA already incorporates a lot, if not most, of their ideas. And this includes the mandate. Anything they come up with will look similar to the ACA. Left wingers want a single payer system. The right was thrown a bone with the ACA, and instead embracing it, they chose to play politics and shite the bed.
