I would be straight up with the parents about it right now, and don't wait til tryouts. Tell them that numbers are tight and if tryouts were today you wouldn't be able to take them. That will give them a year to either accept it or get their kid some serious instruction.

We play year 'round. Season ends July 31. Practice/Tryouts will be in August.
Let the bashing begin. Keep in mind I asked for advice on cutting players, not asking whether or not kids should play baseball all year long.
