re: wear your kill switch...update in OP

I have an 18.5 ft bay boat and was running about half throttle and quartering the chop in Timbalier bay. I was running along all nice and calm and all of a sudden I hit a very large wave (3-4 feet) that must have been a crew boat wake. The way it hit caused my boat to jerk to one side and threw me against the gunwale. I stayed in the boat but I was tossed far enough to pull the kill switch. I could have very easily went over the side.

I always wear my life vest and kill switch when running. Once it becomes habit you hardly notice it.
