That's pretty much what they tried to do with the 98 movie, and it sucked. They probably could have done a better job of trying for that, but Godzilla is best as fun camp imo.

The only thing that was wrong with this last Godzilla was that it was too much attempt at having a developed storyline and not enough campy fun monster battles. They should go more towards that direction rather than trying to make it more realistic or modern.
