#2 SEC vs. #2 PAC 12
Etc. down the line.
Doing it like that, it's obvious which conference is the best...

I'd agree with this if 2 conferences played like this, but no one does this. There are a couple of games every year OOC that can give you a glimpse. For example this year in the B1G:
OSU/VT
MSU/Oregon
Wisky/LSU
UM/ND
OSU should win, and if they don't win by 10+, that will hurt the entire conference.
If MSU and/or Wisky win those games, it helps the conference a ton, since they are probably in similar spots in their conference (MSU 1 or 2 in the B1G and Oregon 1/2 in the PAC and Wisky/LSU in the 2-5 range in their conferences)
That's how I would do it in a perfect world, because I think it's hard to do without enough games between conferences
Vanderbilt > Indiana without seeing those 2 teams play each other.
