Carney was there longer than any press secretary since the Clinton Administration. That's hard to believe. Pretty good article in Politico this morning:

Jay Carney vs. the press

quote:

Indeed, Carney’s most notable achievement, many said, is that he did nothing notable.

“For the most part, he kept his cool and made remarkably few mistakes — quite a feat considering all the White House has been through since he took the job,” said Jon Karl, the ABC News senior White House correspondent who clashed frequently with Carney on camera at the daily briefings.

That has to be the shittiest job on the planet.

I bet Carney quit as soon as he found about Berghdal's release.

I can just imagine him and Obama talking in private.

Carney: You can't do this to me. I get up there and lie for you on daily basis. Now you want me to spin exchanging 5 high ranking terrorists for a lowly private deserter?

Obama: Jay, don't worry. The press will never dig into it. The tin foil hat crowd will be over it in a week. Even the elected republicans will not speak poorly of a decorated war hero. Before this is over I will convince the people that Berghdal was a planted spy from the beginning.
