You don't have to, but once I started using this, Propane torch , I enjoyed my egg a lot more. Don't waste the extra $10 for the one with the igniter, the igniter won't last long.
I picked up a couple bags of lump at sams recently. Not sure of the brand, but have been really pleased with the amount of big hunks vs small debris.
