I'm not as cynical as some in regards to the intellectual comportment of the American people. Ideology gives way to rationality and self interest eventually.

You're either delusional, or terribly optimistic about the "intellectual component" of this country.

There are far too many people voicing their support for increased minimum wage, and far too few who are voicing the actuality that increased minimum wage will severely damage our already fragile economy.

Employees being paid minimum wage are worth just that...minimum wage. There are plenty of jobs out there that pay more than minimum wage for folks that want to work a little harder. Minimum wage jobs are there for high school kids' first jobs.

Even still, if you start at minimum wage somewhere and: show up on time or before, learn your job, do it well, show that you are happy to have that job, (no matter how crummy), and display an attitude conducive to learning/adapting..you can advance yourself to making more than minimum wage in no time. I'd rather earn a raise than have Congress dictate a higher minimum wage, and be at risk of losing a job because the company needs to lay-off employees to maintain profitability.
