Not that I'm saying you are wrong, but I would have looked at it differently. All things equal (1 year deal, vet minimum), at 28 the market was cold on him this year. With the Saints, he'd have a good shot at starting this year, and testing the market next year. With the Bears, he's pretty much guaranteed not to start (excluding injury), and will face a similar market next offseason.

With the Saints, it was going to be win the job or get cut, no in between. That is far from security.
With the Bears they told him straight up he's guaranteed to be the back up with a really high probability of starting next year with Garza gone.
So you take a one year deal with no guarantee you even play that year and then lose out on other opportunities because they are filled not just this year but in future years(may be out of the league), or take a guaranteed one year with a high potential of getting a much larger pay day next year.
Bears sounds far more secure to me.
