My humble opinion is that the average American would rather watch a guy that hits the ball hard and takes big swings over watching a manager contemplate the strategy of when to pull his pitcher. More "action" vs more strategy. If I want to watch strategy, I'll tune into poker or chess

To the hardcore fans, this is an unacceptable view, which I don't understand.
Makes perfect sense to me. I come to watch the players, not the managers.
