Popcorn is incredibly cheap, like 17¢ for what we would sell for $100. Edit: Other people in this thread worked for some shitty theaters, I've worked for 2 of the 3 largest theater companies in the US. AMC and Carmike. Neither does that.

I worked at the AMC theatre in Metairie from 1987 to 1990 and I guarantee you they reused popcorn from the previous night. The trick was to pour the old popcorn into the machine and mix it with freshly popped popcorn. Worked like a charm.
