BOOK SPOILERS...I guess.
Yeah, completely different from the books. Will and Hannibal's entire "relationship" is a creation of this series.
Will is on to Hannibal and Hannibal guts him (and is caught) the second time they even met in the books. And that story isn't even "shown"; it's just described by Will as he's discussing it with another character in Red Dragon.

So he does gut him. But I figured Hannibal was getting caught here, and that's in the books you're saying. I guess it makes for a cool Hannibal on the run season.
