I have not been to Koh Samui, but I looked in to it. It seems more like a go and spend time in your resort/relax type place...which could be what you're looking for on a honeymoon.

If you want more activities, you might be better off elsewhere. Also, if you plan to dive, I think the diving near Koh Samui was ok and seasonal.

I settled on Koh Lanta because it is the only place that you can get to dive sites by speed boat that are usually only accessed by livaboards. Plus, you go to the sites that Phuket divers and Phi Phi divers can't get to, so they are not crowded. Also, Koh Lanta was nowhere near as crowded as the pictures you posted of Phi Phi. That said, we were not in Thailand on our honeymoon, but I probably would have done it the same either way.
