Glock 19. Best all around gun under $600. I am Team 1911 all the way but Glocks are indestructable, reliable, light, high capacity, relatively cheap, easy to clean and have great aftermarket support. I love the .45acp cartridge and my Colt 1911 but my Glock is my workhorse. I carry it to work everyday and dont mind if it takes a beating. If I put a scratch on my Colt 1911, a little piece of me dies on the inside.

This is my work horse/truck gun. It's been thrown around like crazy and there's plenty of character marks in her. I have a few that are safe queens but she ain't one of them.
