This is what happened - in fact, Sexton was approached by LSU to gauge Tuberville's interest (he had just finished his first year at Auburn, after leaving Ole Miss - albeit not in a pine box) - having already been given marching orders by both coaches, apparently, Sexton said, unprompted, "No, Tommy's not interested - but Nick Saban is."

The rest, as they say, is history.

Saban had a mediocre record as head coach before coming to LSU. He inherited great talent that was here already. He did implement his defensive scheme which earned him a national title and the rest is history. Since then he has been hailed as some sort of god, built up and fueled by the media which now allows him to get top notch recruiting classes every year. It kinda reminds me a lot of how Obama was elected
