I work for GE and we do this unless crap also. Just something that upper management thought would be good.

My department is far removed from any that would be utilizing such a thing so I really have no idea. Perhaps it's a good thing. I'm not begrudging the guy but like someone said before it doesn't seem like a job title more of an impressive certification.

GE is where it became mainstream. It's nothing new, really but just takes things that save production cost and encourage efficiency and make them more organized.
