Yeah. In Shreveport at least 50% of the males in theater are gay. If we can assume that theater is the biggest feeder to Hollywood, I think we can assume a lot more.

Caine wrote that he loved it whenever The Dancing Years came to town on tour, because that meant there'd be a lot of actresses available, since most of the male cast members had no interest in them...
