I have heard that when you get asked to donate a dollar or so at a checkout counter the business claims it for themselves as a charitable contribution.

Two ways I see this happening none of which I like:

Likely: End of year they issue a statement saying how much THEY gave to charity when in actuality its a combination of company's money and an accumulation of peoples 1 and 2 dollar donations.

Not as likely: They are somehow able to use donated money in a tax-deductible way.

Anyone know the what the deal is? Am I way off?

smart is all I got. Im sure its written on the star you put your signature on that they could donate it to themselves. They just say feed a kid green star 1$ 5 for a gold. I see no problem in this. investing in something blind is the investors fault. Cause its only a dollar so why not lol
