Why do you not expect it to get much better? Just for the sake of being negative? We've played two games against two very strong offenses.

Because the competition will be better and if you do not know how to move your feet against a team that is not going to make the tournament you won't move your feet against a tournament team. Defense is largely a skill that someone (coach) makes you do. Trent Johnson could coach defense but was apparently lazy or did not care when it came to recruiting.

Don't get me wrong, the program is on the upswing and getting more competitive. I just like to see coaching to go along with talent. Another aspect of coaching is running some type of half court offense when the fast break is not there. We seem to have some trouble with running a half court offense.

Umass and Northwestern are both tournament teams with fast-paced and high-scoring offenses, but that's beyond the point.

So, you're saying Johnny doesn't coach defense? I really don't understand. Our team is incredibly long and athletic and will only improve on the defensive end as they gel further. I love how we've played 2 games against quality opponents, yet you know for sure that none of our weaknesses will improve.

Trent Johnson's team just slowed the game down. Doesn't necessarily mean good defense.

The two teams we have played play very fast, open games. Most people were impressed with our defense in the UMASS game and I think we played even better in the Northwestern St game.

I think saying our defense is bad is truly a mistake at this point.

First, I think that UMass and NWs could well be tournament bound, or at the very least NIT.

Second, JJ has been emphasizing in practice about moving their feet and it doesn't come overnight to kids who have been used to using hands, arms etc. Some of our players have bad habits that might take a while to work out.
