That's what leads me to believe it was mor a case of Les truly feeling he was doing a noble thing by taking a knee rather than and attempt to send a message to Mett.
I wouldn't want to try to get inside the mind of Les Miles but I suspect if he were truly angry with his QB then Mett would have come off the field and spoken too in private. Taking a knee with five minutes to play just to discipline a single player is extreme IMHO.
well that's why i said i don't think either was that serious. i think if miles was truly mad something would've happened in private (and it still might have).
i see it more like "ok you guys wanna get cute, how's this for cute" and mett being like "ok coach you got us". i think mett knows what he did was wrong and not a serious offense. like when an entire class goofs around and you get called on it. you take the punishment bc you thought the goofing around was worth it.
i don't see this as a major issue or an overstep by miles. and in hindsight i think its funny.

This. I doubt if it was intentional but its flat out disrespecting to the other team. No way Les takes that risk just to discipline one player.
Les thought he was doing the right thing by not scoring.
see that's why i like it. he got to slap players on the wrist AND not score. two birds, one stone.

If it was a punishment for calling a play previously then I agree, given that Mett remained on the field, it probably wasn't a serious concern to Les.
I guess the part that throws me is Les risking being called out by the Ole Miss coaching staff and the national media, for disrespecting the Ole Miss team just to send a message to Mett. There are clearly better ways to handle the situation.
Mine is just an opinion. I don't have inside information of why it played out as it did.

gotcha.
yeah i understand the perception may been different from the intent. i think nutt knew what was happening. the fans however tend to paint their own pictures. you're right about that.

True and with Les I suppose its possible. Just that its an iffy move when the sensibilities of the other team and their fans are involved.
No one wants to feel as if they're being disrespected and it would be easy for OM to feel that way.
I think Les' intentions were pure

The team is basically saying we are done owning you, lets call it a night.
which is why it's embarassing
