Following up a tough Kent State team, and improved Auburn team, and showdown at Georgia, this is a classic trap road game before Florida comes to BR.
Trap game?
1992: LSU opens at home with nationally ranked Texas A&M the week before MSU, plays a big game at Auburn the week after. LSU is a 2-9 team (worst team in our history), MSU challenges for the SEC West title, losing a close game to Bama late in the season to get eliminated.
Score: LSU 24, MSU 3
1993: Same as above, A&M the week before, Auburn after, LSU again sucks, MSU again thought they were good, but weren't.
Score: LSU 18, MSU 16
1994: Same as above. A&M (tough loss) the week before, Auburn next. Classic trap game. MSU again good. LSU again bad, although still hoping to be good.
Score: LSU 44, MSU 24
1995: Yet another trap game. #3 A&M the week before, #5 Auburn the week after. On the road in Starkville in between. State is expected to be good, we aren't.
Score: LSU 34, MSU 16
2003: Tigers beat Georgia 17-10 in one of the most intense games in Tiger Stadium's afternoon history the week before. The week after is Florida, which at the time seemed like a big game (and we did lose to them anyway). MSU in between, at Starkville.
Score: LSU 41, MSU 6
2004: Sandwiched between a tough loss at Auburn and a big game at Georgia the next week.
Score: LSU 51, MSU 0
Those are the supposedly "trap" game situations we've had against MSU in the last 20+ years or so.
We have better players and better coaches. We beat them every year because of that. We will have better players and better coaches this year. We may lose, because any game can always be lost, but every rational indication is that the streak will reach 14 this year.
