Bailey redeems himself at the end, which is meant to show that we can overcome our natural limits and reach new heights. But I stick to my guns: he's always kind of a douche,

I agree - he was hard to like.

Another thing - wouldn't he have returned and made a report - at least by the TNG timeline? Whatever happened to Balock and The First Federation?

Perhaps fried Bailey goes well with a glass of Tranya.

Or more likely, Bailey went mad listening to that laugh 24/7.

This was a solid episode. I thought it did a good job building tension. You can tell the pressure gets to the crew a bit. Bailey breaks down, Kirk barks at Spock, who almost apologizes before catching himself, and Kirk and McCoy get into a pissing match over Bailey as the ship's about to be destroyed.

Speaking of McCoy, he fits right in in his first episode. He and Shatner have a good chemistry. From his first scene with the alert light, we see McCoy as someone who is not afraid of Kirk or intimidated by his authority. A great addition to the cast.

In the last episode, Spock says one of his ancestors is human. This one confirms it's his mother. Still no mention of his planet or race, however.

I actually find myself liking Bailey. I'm glad he gets a happy ending.

This is my first time seeing the new special effects. They look pretty good so far.
