Another option is Montana, I've always wanted to check out Glacier, and then there's Yellowstone in the southern part of the state and into upper Wyoming. There's also some cool places in Idaho. Glacier will probably have the best scenery, however this seems like a shite load of driving to see multiple things. I'd probably love this, not sure if they would.

This would be my preference. The first trip will put you in relatively close proximity to like 6 national parks (Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands and Arches). Utah is such a beautiful state, and you'll be able to see a lot in 10 days. I think I just prefer landscapes at Glacier and Yellowstone. You would also be very close to Grand Tetons NP, which is incredible as well.

As for the second trip...If you guys haven't done San Francisco before, it's definitely a great city. Yosemite will be crowded. Lake Tahoe is such a beautiful place, but don't expect it to be unspoiled like the NPs. South Lake Tahoe and Stateline feel so out of place in the presence of such a beautiful lake. I know, that's just like my opinion, man. The north shore of Lake Tahoe is more my speed.
