I would think it was no big deal if the bit was actually funny, I mean you can make fun of people with disabilities and have it actually be funny, even though it's rather mean.
However this was not only mean but it was completely devoid of humor at all, I didn't even crack a smile, it's like not even close to funny.

That's something that Fox and co. don't understand. It's not the fact that they used Gleason as a comedy bit, it's because it was done in such poor taste that it wasn't entertaining or funny, it was just stupid degradation.
When you're in the public eye, such as a radio host, and your bills are paid by sponsors who choose to share that public eye with you and stand by your product, your product can't be detractive to an audience.
To me this is a great example of what happens when the market speaks for itself. Not that their ratings were of a great consequence (they were horrible anyway), but they are paid money to put on an entertaining sports radio show. Plenty of other jockeys do just fine without having to resort to such idiocy.
Fox and co. are right in the legal sense, but not in a business sense or moral sense....or common sense for that matter. If you want to keep your public job, make sure you know how to do good business with your clients. 790 obviously was desperate for an audience, to try anything. Well, like it or not they've got the publicity for it. Will be interesting to see what happens now.
