It had nothing to do with attention span. It did have to do with them having too much going on at one time and then running into an issue with tying it up. They had reached a point where they were adding twists just to add twists

yep, it got to be pitiful. and you know how many episodes were left,so there was no way that this "new" suspect they were hot and heavy on was the true culprit.
then it ends with a simple plot.

i'll give it one more shot just b/c nothing else is on tv.
