I don't get why people say we got robbed that night against USC. It was a pretty clear facemask, the QB's head turned around.
What did happen though was a clear false start at the beginning of the play.
But the face mask was definitely a facemask.

Regarding the 1979 LSU - USC game and questionable call...
You Tube Of The Play
Here is the play in question. I was there and the QB's (Paul McDonald) face mask was touched and maybe pulled. Note that there was not a 5 Yard FaceMask penalty then.
What bothered most fans was the NO CALL on the false start by the RG and RT.
It should have been off-setting and the play run again. Instead, it was a 15 yd walkoff and a 1st down that led to a game winning TD.
Despite the outcome, arguably one of the best games ever played in Tiger Stadium.

Here is a blown up version of the false start.

My problem with this aspect of the play is that the two USC guys that jumped early were lined up over Benji. Had they not been upright before the snap, Benji probably would have cleaned Mcdonald's clock with no penality.
