Bigger embarrassment: Ray Nagan,Bountygate or theTimes Picayune?
I'd say all those bums standing at intersections begging for money are pretty fricking embarrassing.
They're all over, especially at convenience stores
or gas stations.
Sometimes when I drive up in the parking lot of a couple of places I go to in Metairie and River Ridge, it never fails - I see them riding or walking up in my rear view mirror.
If I just wait a minute or pretend I am on my phone, sometimes they leave.
The ones who have caught me have the most creative stories:
"I was supposed to meet a man here for a job from Craigslist, and he never showed, and I have my wife and whole family right over there in the car with no money for gas"
"My car broke down and I have no money for gas and I live just up the road"
"Could I have your spare change to buy food, I haven't eaten in 3 days"
"I got stranded here by my friend who was supposed to meet me, and I live around the corner"
Usually the same people have one of the exact same stories from the previous night or week...
Once in a while I give in if I think he's (or she's) sincere, but most of them just want money for booze or drugs. I do feel sorry for a few of them though....
