In 1961 I worked my first job in the Concession Stand at a drive in theater (Skyview) in Jackson, MS.
Coconut oil as deep orange as you could imagine. Real butter - must have popped three thousand batches.
Now I just run a bag through the microwave. We probably still have our popping boiler in teh cabinet. Maybe I'll get a bottle of popping oil and some popcorn just for old times sake.
There were rules about the amount of salt and oil we used in the concession stand. Lots of oil made really pretty yellow kernals and lots of salt sold more drinks. As a professional Pop corn popper back in those days, I knew for a fact that patrons told us we popped the best popcorn in Jackson, MS.
The Skyview has been gone for years. They took it down when I-20 came through - Actually I-220.
We made a mean goat cheese pizza, too.
