alright i just got back from watching it here is my thoughts if anyone cares:
Let me start with this Bilbo >>>>>>>>>> Frodo
The movie started off good I really liked that they showed a little backstory on the dwarf kingdom i don't think they did in the book. The next hour and a half or so was mediocre at best. I really think it would've served them well to make this 2 movies instead of three. They took some liberties in adapting from the book but i was ok with most of them. I liked that they made Thorin and the dwarves into more heroic and brave figures rather than the clumsy useless ones from the book. I did not enjoy the cartoon character like portrayals of the dwarves outside a few of them. Gandalf bugged me a little at times he seemed to act like a whiny child instead of the gandalf we all know.
Enough with the negatives though the last hour and fifteen of the movie picked up greatly. Starting around the time they reached the elf kingdom it turned into what i expected and wanted. I really liked the necromancer part and welcomed that addition to the hobbit. From this point on the movie seemed more game of thrones and less mother goose. The bilbo and gollum scene was all it was hyped up to be, loved it. The ending was perfect imo. I felt they ended it on a great note and set up for the next one.
Overall it felt like two drastically different movies. I really believe shortening it into 2 movies instead of a trilogy would've gave them a shot at greatness as the story could've progressed a little quicker. The beginning seemed to drag and really felt more like a children's movie. However, the ending definitely left me anticipating the next one.
I would rate it a 6.5/10
The latter part of the movie was great but the beginning was tough to overcome. I'll say again with 2 movies i believe they could've made this worthy of an 8 or 9.
