I switched to Hornady ammunition and have no problem now. Talked to a gunsmith and he said Remington is trying to make their 35 whelen bullet identical to the 3006 bullet. In doing so the diameter near the front of the bullet is a little smaller making the bullet fall into the gun a little more which doesnt allow the firing pin to reach it properly.

Whatever works, but your gunsmith is full of crap as that most of the time in factory ammunition, the ogive of the bullet does not contact the lands in the rifling. Oh, it is likely that your Hornady ammunition and the Remington ammunition use the same bullet as that for many years, Hornady made the Corelokt for Remington.
