Klinsmann in Friendlies vs. Klinsmann in Competitive Matches in 2012

Record in Friendlies: 5-1-1
A rather placid draw in Canada, and a "not as bad as the scoreline reflects" loss in Maryland to Brazil.
Away victories in Panama, Italy and Mexico. Very good showing in home win over Scotland.
Record in Competitive Fixtures: 1-1-1
One rather competitive 3-1 victory over Antigua & Barbuda, a team that we should have beaten by at least 4 goals.
One sloppy draw away in Guatemala, partly caused by horrible refereeing decisions (see: advantage rule of play), and stupid fouling in dangerous positions.
One shocking loss to a mediocre Jamaica, caused by atrocious tactics and stupid fouling in dangerous positions (emerges a trend?).
A three game sample is poor by any statistical measure. However, it has become apparent that Klinsmann's sides look much better in friendlies, especially in the second half when both sides can make sweeping personnel changes. Bob Bradley had a horrible record in friendlies, but only lost final round qualifiers away to Mexico and Costa Rica. His only loss at this stage of qualifying came in the final group fixture away to Trinidad having already secured qualification for the next round. Not to mention that game featured a roster full of experimental players like Freddy Adu and Chuck Davies.
