I think the intention is to get attention for caged tigers in an attempt to stir up negative feelings toward Mike because it certainly has done that.

Washington State head coach Mike Leach shared his thoughts after Wednesday's practice on the LIVE tiger in Seattle.
Of course, he did.
Leach said, "Well, I think it would be impressive if they let that Tiger out of the cage. The other thing they could have done is stuck a Husky in there with that Tiger and let the Husky outduel that Tiger inside that cage and I think that would send a message to everybody."
He added, "I think I'd put my money on the same animal everyone else would."
Leach didn't say if he thought the idea was silly or not, but PTI's Tony Kornheiser and Mike Wilbon unloaded on Sark during Wednesday's show. Both said the idea was "dumb and stupid." Kornheiser believes Sark just created his own distraction for the team.
