Bet those on-call doctors hoped it was not their # announced when these announcements were made, since it meant they might have to leave the game."

I had forgotten that, but your message sparked my memory. I remember hearing those annoucements way back in the 60's when my Paw Paw and Dad took me to a couple of games over the years.

Later, I remember asking myself, "I wonder why they don't make those doctor announcements, anymore," only to realize that beepers and pagers took their place (along with "on call" doctors).
