Architect for the west uppers were more concerned with making a name for themselves. They have built some real abominations around the area over the years. They paid absolutely no respect to the design elements of the rest of the stadium.
It's hideous....and I hope they tear the whole west upper deck down and start over. It's the stadium version of Middleton library to me.
Keep in mind that they didn't build the new west upper deck from scratch. They tore off the top of the old west upper deck and rebuilt it with new club seating/lounges, press box and upper seating. Virtually everything from the bottom of the club lounges to the top was new construction, along with the 4 major supports. The ramps in the center and stairs were from the old uppper deck.
What LSU did on the West Upper deck project was really remarkable, engineering wise. They attempted and accomplished rebuilding without losing seating capacity for an entire season, which was the alternative. If they would have had time, I am sure the architecture could have been more in line with the existing lower bowl. Just look at the renderings for the new south upper decks to see what can be done from scratch.
