I don't know where the "play without helmets and they won't get hurt as much" idea came from.

Back in the early 1900's so many college players were dying and getting seriously hurt that they almost banned the sport then. 24 guys died in 5 years and there weren't nearly as many teams. Imagine the reaction if 5 college guys a year died now.

it's all about proper tackling techniques. i don't recall a great deal of rugby players dying, because they do not lead with their heads. i'm not saying rugby players don't have collisions with cause concussions, but unless we instruct our players to tackle properly, we will continue to lose football players to concussions and neck injuries.

i understand that football will never be played without helmets, though, so...
