They are indangered in Al. If you catch one you must throw him back. They don't have bones only cartiledge. And they are good to eat. I did a lot of camping on the Alabama river back during the 70s and would catch one on a trot line every now and then. I cooked them and they were good. They have been around for ever.

I've caught several. Once in a bayou and several in trammel nets in white lake a long time ago.
They're good to eat but you have to take out the cartilage backbone.

We go purposely snagging for them up in Iowa on the Demoines river.
