My personal #1 without a doubt is Big John Tate vs Mike Weaver in 1980.
One of the most astonishing endings ever to a heavyweight title fight, this came towards the end of the era of 15 rounders.
Tate towered over Weaver physically and dominated him for 14 rounds.
If he could have managed to stay conscious for the fifteenth round, he would have won easily. This was not to be, however.
Weaver came out as the bell sounded and clearly understood the nature of his task.
He came after Tate with everything he had, and caught him with a punch that had Tate unconscious at the moment of impact. Tate dropped to the canvas, face first, like the proverbial felled oak in a jaw dropping, highly improbable climax.
