F-150 Ball Joints FAIL

Took my 2004 crew cab in for brakes (108K miles) and my mechanic says ball joints are about gone, and to fix, have to replace the entire control arm assembly. This is going to be major $$$, but it appears I have no option. Since I became an OT baller I haven't done any mechanic work, but is there any way around this multi-thousand dollar repair? And it's not the labor, it's the freaking parts running up the tab. FWIW, I really trust this mechanic-my whole family uses him, and have for years. Whatever happened to just pressing in new ball joints for a few bucks and calling it done?

shite don't tell me that. I know the spacers on the front are gonna kill my ball joints pretty early

Just did some quick reading on some forums...looks like the upper ball joints you have to replace the control arms. They said get aftermarket arms rather than OEM, because aftermarket ones have a grease fitting and can have just the ball joints replaced in the future rather than the whole arm again.
The lower ball joints can be pressed out and replaced. Apparently some mechanic have been telling people they need to replace the lower control arms as well, and this is false.

window motors
Those frickers. I've had all four of those drop on me. Black trucks on huge concrete parking lots haven't been kind. I love the truck, but damn, a repair bill that's probably going to approach 50% of it's book value...

Search around on some F150 forums, you can probably find a good brand of aftermarket upper control arms people like

I bought my truck used in 06 and replaced all 4 window motors. About 1 a year. They aint cheap and when a window falls down there isn't much you can do
